Fall 2017: The ATA achieved plenty in 2017 all culminating in a 8-day trip by our new chair, David Smith, Gerald Shaye and Melissa Bellew. The ATA also provided a unique internship opportunity in Albany for three talented entrepreneurs from Tula and lets not forget the funding provided to start an Environmental Short Course for students in Tula. Summer 2012. Two area high school students will travel to Tula this September with chaperones and long-time Alliance friends Dawn Stuart Weinraub and Mary Emerson. The students won this year’s 2012 Essay Contest with their essays on Leo Tolstoy’s imagined impact on world leaders. For next year’s Olympiad and 2013’s new Career Fellowship programs, we’re seeking financial supporters through the Sponsor a Student fundraising campaign. And our Business Committee is actively providing market research for both Tula and Capital Region companies interested in exploring trade opportunities. VIEW PDF COPY HERE.
Summer 2011. With 20th Anniversary activities in full swing, this issue briefly recaps highlights of the year to date, including: the February visit from TSU professors to investigate business incubators; the student essay and Olympiad contests; reflections by Tula’s 2010 American Studies Olympiad winners on their visit to Albany in April; the Open World delegation visit exploring alternative education; the Road to Paradise and Sculpture Exhibits in May. Winter 2011. It’s hard to believe all that has transpired between the Capital Region and Tula since the Alliance began in 1991. What started as a humanitarian effort to aid Tulans during the economic hardships that accompanied the dissolution of the Soviet Union has blossomed through the years into rich exchanges of teenagers, college professors, environmentalists, musicians, teachers, medical doctors, government representatives, librarians, scientists, and businesspeople — in both directions. In recent years, a new generation of citizens is engaged and fostering outreach to young people through elementary and secondary schools. VIEW PDF COPY HERE
Fall 2010. This issue celebrates accomplishments in Eductation, including the first Alliance Student Essay Contest in the Albany region and the first American Studies Olympiad in Tulas. Highlighted are essays by Jim Schneider, one of three teachers from Schenectady High School who traveled to Tula to judge the Olympiad, and essays by the two high school students from Albany who traveled to Tula as the prize for their winning essays.
